Requirements for
Digitally Furnished Ads

PLATFORM SUPPORTED: Macintosh and PC
SOFTWARE SUPPORTED: Quark, PageMaker, Illustrator, Freehand, Photoshop, Acrobat, and Corel Draw (PC only).

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Disk (or Zip 100 MB, Jaz 1 or 2 GB, or CD-ROM -- ads are not accepted via e-mail) should include printed directory showing all contents.
  • Name of ad and contact information.
  • Contract quality proof.
  • Document should be created at actual size of the ad.
  • Include screen and printer fonts that are used in ad (avoid TrueType wherever possible).
  • Actual fonts should be used (stylized fonts may not render).
  • Include all scans and illustrations on disk.
  • Photos should be either Grayscale or CMYK.
  • Photos should have a final effective resolution of 300 dpi.
  • Photos should be saved as either TIFF, or if clipping path is used as EPS.
  • Lineart should have a final effective resolution of 1200 dpi
  • Lineart should be saved as TIFF with LZW compression applied.
  • Created color should be CMYK.

OTHER MATERIAL (in order of acceptability):

  1. Offset film negatives, 133 or 150 screen, right reading, emulsion side down, trim marks in margin.
  2. Positives, right reading, emulsion side up.
  3. Reproduction proofs.
  4. Mechanicals

CONTRACT AND COPY REGULATIONS:

The contract year is six consecutive issues.

The Publisher reserves the right to exclude any advertisement that in its opinion does not conform to the standards of the publication.

All advertisements must be clearly and prominently identified by a trademark and/or signature of the advertiser. The word "advertisement" shall be printed at either the top or bottom of advertisements which, in the opinion of the Publisher, might be confused with editorial pages.

All advertisements are accepted for publication entirely upon the representation that the agency and/or advertiser are properly authorized to publish the entire contents and subject matter thereof; it is understood that, in consideration of the publication of advertisements, the advertiser and/or agency will fully indemnify and hold the Publisher, Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, harmless from and against any judgments, costs, expenses or disbursements incurred by reason of claims or suits for libel, violation of right of privacy, plagiarism, copyright infringement or any other claims or suits based upon the contents or subject matter of such advertisements.
