CJR Dollar Conversion Calculator
Use the form below to convert dollars from a past year into recent year dollars, adjusted for inflation. ("Century," as indicated below, refers to the first two digits in a year, e.g., 19 for any year 1900 to 1999.)
Avoid undue precision. For years prior to 1913, round to no more than two places, e.g., $5283 becomes $5300. For more recent years, round to no more than three places, e.g., $5283 becomes $5280.
This calculator was created using data provided by Professor Robert Sahr (Robert.Sahr@orst.edu) of the Oregon State University Political Science Department. Professor Sahr's spreadsheet, which contains a more detailed explanation of how dollar figures are adjusted, is available as a PDF File.
